Garden intern at the Meent

Will you come and help develop Boerderij de Meent? We are a farm for and by refugees. Together we do carpentry, cook, manage the garden, the animals and the landscape. We are building a sustainable place in the Bovenkerkerpolder of Amstelveen. The sustainably produced food that we harvest - vegetables, meat, eggs - goes to the participants and volunteers, lunch and local drop-in centres and neighbourhood meals for, among others, the homeless and people without papers.

In addition to oxen, chickens, pigs and cats, we maintain a beautiful vegetable garden of 600m2 incl. 60m2 greenhouse with over 100 types of vegetables, flowers and herbs. We garden organically, but are not quality mark certified. We are looking for an intern who would like to come and help in the garden on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for at least 3 months (ideally the entire garden season until October). Preferably from April/May 2025! Good to know: there is no housing on the farm for interns.

Our goal is to offer undocumented people a place where they can develop themselves, discover interests and talents, be part of a community and help build a bigger goal, namely providing social (food) projects with sustainable and quality food . We have - in addition to the experience gained in practice - a learning trajectory consisting of workshops and excursions around the different farm skills and themes.

This internship does not have to be study related: if you are busy with a switch to gardening, are motivated and have a bit of green fingers - then this could also be the internship for you. Welcome to help out occasionally with the other tasks on the farm, if you like; such as carpentry, animal care, nature management and processing the harvest into meals or products (tea, cream, soap etc.).

You will join a motivated team - including experienced gardener Hanno, from the Warmonderhof - and involved farm community; participants (people without papers) from all kinds of different cultural backgrounds and volunteers from the area. A green/sustainable and social heart? Welcome to the Meent.
